Why is local raw honey more expensive than cheaper supermarket honey?

As much as we would all love to save a few bucks on our weekly grocery trips, spending more on local raw honey does have its benefits. When it comes to store-bought honey, what you are usually getting is a highly processed product full of additives and preservatives that can diminish the health properties of the original nectar. On the other hand, local raw honey contains many antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins - not to mention an array of antibacterial compounds that aid with digestion and help boost your immune system.

Most supermarket honey is produced commercially and often comes from large-scale bee farms located far away from natural floral sources like wildflowers or polyculture fields. This means their bees don't get access to their nutritional needs in order for them to produce high-quality natural honey. Additionally, having less taste variation due to lack of availability limits the amount of flavor differentiation between batches leading manufacturers down the path of looking for cheaper alternatives such as artificial sweeteners and artificial colors & flavors.

Because local raw honey is harvested close by and at peak times when flowers will be in bloom - meaning a better variety in pollen types which give each jar unique tastes – this ensures superior quality every time! Finally, labor costs for smaller apiaries are typically higher because they don't have the same economies of scale as larger operations. The price you pay reflects this attention to detail when creating unprocessed antioxidant-rich superfoods loved by both humans (and bears!). So while it might cost extra now, rest assured knowing you’re investing in your long-term wellness with every spoonful!
